I was in a store down the street recently and I ran across a person, who was a manager at a fast food joint I visit like 3–4 times per week. I hadn’t seen them in years and wondered what they were up to lately. So I approached the person and asked them what they were up to. Their reply went something like this. “I left fast food because I couldn’t keep employees…Now, I do maintenance work.”

LESS THAN A WEEK LATER

I was in the same store when I bumped into a customer I had met a few months earlier. They had mentioned to me they were a District Manager for a popular restaurant company. Since it was in the middle of the week, I automatically assumed she was on vacation. Her exact words, “I retired after 35 years with the company.” Her reasons why: “Tired of employees not showing up and I got tired of answering phone calls in the middle of the night [location issues].”

RECRUITERS NEEDS TO TELL THE NITTY GRITTY

As I mentioned in previous posts, hiring ads is the problem. Management recruiters need to tell it like it is. Below how a real conversation should take place:

Recruiter (to applicant):

Workers come and go like a drop of a hat. Most will suck. Most hate their dad. They have issues. Plus, they think they are too good to work here
