The world isn’t a perfect place. None of us were around when the first humans walked on Earth. There has been all kinds of wars for this-and-that. The 100 Year War between England and France during the 14th and 15th Century was fought intermittingly. The Black Plague. Slavery. World Wars. AIDS.

The list goes on forever.

With the invention of radio and tv back in the thirties and forties, entertainers could reach the hearts and minds of millions at a time about whatever crisis facing their country and rest of the world. Lots of entertainers were, and still are, against wars and any kind of injustice. Muhammad Ali went to jail over the draft for Vietnam. Jane Fonda did her message thing against the same war.

WE ARE THE WORLD

Back in the 1980’s, a group of world famous singers gathered in the middle of the night to record a song about world hunger. The song written by Lionel Richie and Michael Jackson was We Are The World. It has sold 20M copies to date for African famine relief.

DO THEY KNOW IT’S CHRISTMAS

During 1984, Bob Geldof and Midge Uri got an ensemble of British and Irish singers in a recording studio to record a song for Christmas time of the year. “Do They Know Its Christmas?” The ensemble was named Band Aid. The sales of nearly also went to Ethiopian famine relief. It has raised nearly [$14M USD] to date, according to thisdayinmusic.com.

Five years later, Band Aid II was formed with mostly different artists to support the same cause.

There was Band Aid 20 in 2004.

Band Aid 30 in 2014.

LIVE AID 1985

At once on July 13, 1985 a concert was held at JFK stadium In Philadelphia, PA. The other was at Wembley Stadium in London England. American and British music stars came together to raise money for famine relief.
